Michèle Wright : 'Lockdown Life'
When lockdown began I felt as if my world had ended; I was self-isolating at home and it was incredibly lonely. Then I heard about the doorstep portraits that countless photographers were doing worldwide and suddenly I had something to get excited about. The resulting body of work is humorous, quirky and, I hope, uplifting for these troubled times. Being forced to stay in my own area has meant I now have countless new friends and feel far more ‘at home’; this project has been about far more than photography.

JIN TALOG
I first met David and Anthony as visitors to the Hall looking for pieces to furnish their new home, they, like me, had recently returned to live in Wales after decades away. Soon they were making 'Jin' in Talog, just over the valley from Mick Morgan’s pottery. I popped in to say hello, inviting them to serve their delicious ‘Jin’ as cocktails to our visitors on the opening night…. it was a roaring success.
Launched in 2018, and tasting emphatically of gin, Jin Talog is the only Welsh gin to have been awarded 3 stars by the Great Taste awards. Distilled in small batches using only three ingredients – organic fair trade juniper berries, organic spirit and spring water from the farm. It will arrive wrapped in the wool from their small flock of rare breed Towy valley Balwen sheep. A gin in sheep’s clothing, you might say.

WRIGHT'S FOOD EMPORIUM
On moving back to Wales I was looking for somewhere to get a good coffee, delicious home made cake and a tasty brunch. When I first walked into Wrights I knew it would become my first port of call to meet friends and take visitors for lunch or weekend suppers.
Wrights supplied the wine for our first exhibition at the Hall and have since been an amazing support to me and the exhibition over the past four years. Allowing us to showcase and sell the work by our potters, painters and printmakers in their fantastic venue. We cannot wait to be able to visit Wrights again soon, but in the meantime they are doing a fantastic online offer selling local produce, a section of homemade cakes and meals to take away....so you can still get your Wrights fix.
