Collection: Nick Membery : Potter : Ffairfach

Nick Membery graduated from his degree in ceramics in 1991, and has been making stoneware pottery ever since. For 25 years Nick made a successful catalogue range of table and kitchen ware, repetition throwing and gas firing. Recent years his ambitions have reached beyond the old range and, after much experimenting and developing, he has ‘re-graduated’ to building a wood-fired kiln, mixing his own clay from scratch, making pots incorporating local and found materials, and most crucially loosening the hold of repetition, allowing each pot to express its own identity, while retaining a ‘family resemblance’.

Nick works with iron oxide in his glazes, which, used sparingly can produce pale blues and greens, and used in excess can produce blacks and deep reds. It is the shiny, dark, mirror black of his high-iron tenmoku glaze, used alone or in contrast with pale green, satin matte ash glazes that Nick will showcase in ‘Let the Darkness in’.
