Andy McColl McPherson : Artist : Aberystwyth

Following his graduation from Hull University where he studied Fine Art, Andy found work in theatre as a prop and set designer until he moved into animation working on TV specials and commercials.

Andy moved to Wales two decades ago, working from home as a freelance animator. Here he enrolled in a weekly pottery evening class. He now sells his earthenware slip decorated ceramics in the Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

He continues to work in animation with production teams around the world. Recently completing ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’, which was aired on the BBC One last Christmas.... and it won an Oscar.

Andy has an obsession with making things. Sculptures, paintings, lamps, carved stools, pots, coffee tables, tree houses and sheds.

This current series of paintings are a lockdown project. They each start with a rectangle within a rectangle, made with gouache, acrylic and gum Arabic on pieces of cardboard packaging that came through the post.
