Collection: Lorraine Thorne : Painter : Bedfordshire

The flowers and insects are seen in the suggested space of a room, incongruous as life forms, but familiar as decorative design. I have celebrated the infinite possibilities for surface design from the natural world, while questioning the fragility of its existence.

The imagery has been inspired by two women botanical artists who were extraordinary for their time, explorers and painters of the natural world Maria Sibylla Merian 1647-1717 and Marianne North.1830- 1890. They travelled to exotic places and documented the species they found, some of those species are now extinct.
