Collection: Kim Colebrook : Ceramics : Abergavenny

In my practice, I aim to incorporate texture and narrative, often creating very simple forms that will carry the intended message. My work is hand built or cast, integrating textures, colours and oxides. The narrative may be developed within a single vessel, or by combining numerous elements for wall displays or installations.

My work is inspired by my passion for telling the stories of South Wales, the people that drove the Industrial Revolution and the natural assets that gave this area the opportunity to lead the world. These vessels are inspired by the geology of The Valleys, but also serve as a metaphor for the way that memories are buried and distorted by time and distance.

Inspired by the deep black layers of the coal measures, Kim's work highlights the layers by using Black Onyx and White Porcelain, taking advantage of the translucence of the material to see layers hidden beneath the surface.
