Collection: Arwel Micah : Painter : Swansea

Arwel Micah creates work that is an amalgamation of memories and observations. He is influenced by family stories and his upbringing in rural Wales as well as journeys and experiences of foreign cultures. The landscape, identity, memories and journeys are very important elements in his work, but  these images are often unrecognizable having been stripped back to basic shapes and forms. Since gaining an MA in Graphic Communication his work has become more focused and fragmented. Ideas are developed with many different layers often using a combination of sketchbook, photography and Photoshop as a starting point. Arwel’s current work is indicative of this layering technique which includes varied processes from print making and collage to drawing.

Y mae Arwel Micah yn creu gwaith sy’n gyfuniad o atgofion ac arsylwadau. Y mae wedi cael ei dylanwadu gan straeon teuluol a’i magwraeth yng nghefn gwlad Cymru yn ogystal â theithiau a phrofiadau o ddiwylliannau  estron. Y mae’r tirlun, hunaniaeth, atgofion a theithiau yn elfennau pwysig iawn yn ei waith, ond mae’r delweddau yma fel arfer yn amhosibl ei adnabod gan eu bod wedi symleiddio i siapiau a ffurfiau craidd. Ers ennill MA mewn Cyfathrebu Graffigol mae ei gwaith wedi dod yn llawer mwy pendant a tameidiog. Y mae ei syniadau yn cael eu datblygu gan ddefnyddio sawl wahanol haen, yn aml yn defnyddio cyfuniad o braslyfr, ffotograffiaeth a Photoshop fel man dechrau. Y mae gwaith presennol Arwel yn arwyddol o’r proses haenu yma sy’n cynnwys prosesau amrywiol o argraffu a chollage i arlunio.
