Collection: John Snocken : Potter : Shropshire
I always endeavour to incorporate as many local materials as possible into my slips and glazes. Using local rocks, clays and wood ash gives me the satisfaction of knowing that by doing so I am producing glazes that are particular to me, and so work towards achieving some singularity in my pots. Combinations of stone dust and particles, clay and wood ash produce glazes that vary greatly in colour and texture. I am very much drawn to wood ash, enjoying the process of collecting boughs and branches from my own fruit trees and other 'finds' on the floor of nearby woodland. Then on to the burning, the collection of the ash, its washing and drying before the final mixing of the glaze.
I make one-off pots, and one-off glazes, finally surrendering them to the elements of chance within the firing to produce the finished works.
