Rhian Nest James : Artist : Llandeilo

Rhian Nest James studied at Cardiff College of Art and Exeter College of Art where she specialised in Illustration. Her 35-year career as a professional Illustrator followed, working for publishing houses here and overseas including Sydney where she lived for many years.

She is a painter and forager finding inspiration from natural materials and forms.

The primeval atmosphere within ancient woodland, the unseen connections between the giant sentinels and tender saplings, the creaking of branches, the whispering canopy and the crunch of fallen leaves, the cycle of birth, decay and renewal, a place where ancestor’s spirits reside amongst cathedral stands and sacred groves, places of ritual, sanctuary and retreat.

Trying to capture in paint the magnificence and fragility of trees is both a challenging and joyous obsession.
