This piece forms a part of an ongoing body of work depicting stories about picking up your original roots and the quest for finding a new place of belonging, a new home.
Mixed Media : Acrylic painting, self-portrait photography, newspaper
I sourced newspapers from between 1982 and 1996 (the years I lived in my birth country) from Hungary to create the ground for some of the pieces in the series, as that is where my original baby roots were put down.
I spend time searching for words or phrases that mean something to me, which I nestle amongst the torn newspaper bits. Throughout different pieces you'll find my birthday, favourite foods, birth place, my parents' car when I was a child, my sister's birthday, the nickname our neighbour gave me etc etc... scattered in "the ground".
Frame: hand carved wooden frame, painted by artist
