Anna Cooley : Ceramicist : Builth Wells

"Following a degree in Ecology in Wales back in the 80's I worked for many years in film and TV in London, latterly in natural history programming. My Husband and I moved to Wales in 2003 with our young family and formed the husband and wife team that is StudySculpture Workshops - creative summer workshops at our home. Simon Cooley does the teaching and I look after everything else.

During winter months I get to work with clay. I prefer to hand-build, and currently most of my work is slab-built.

I draw inspiration from the forms and patterns found in the plant and animal life around me.  Designs are created using a variety of techniques including the use of slips, wax resist, underglazes, oxides and glazes.  I use stoneware clay which is fired in an electric kiln."
