Ceramicist Elif Kaban Bowers creates one-of-a-kind porcelain jewellery sculpted by hand. This most exquisite of clays is fired slowly in a German-built kiln to 1280 degrees Celsius, hotter than any known volcano which gives porcelain its unique strength. The artist re-interprets nature's organic forms in contemporary minimal language. Hand-polished to velvet-like smoothness, unglazed porcelain is infused with silver or gems. Once associated with dainty figurines of pouting milkmaids and Victorian tea sets, porcelain becomes a playful medium for contemporary jewellery with the perfect balance of softness and strength, statement and wearability. The creative language draws on the multi-layered cultural heritage of the artist’s home town Istanbul, and an accumulation of knowledge from a globe-trotting career as a foreign correspondent working and living over many years in Russia, Central Asia, Africa, Turkey and Switzerland
