Collection: MONOCHROME : GREYSCALE
Our 11th Open Studio Group Exhibition
For such an ancient way of communicating ideas and expression, monochrome remains one of the most effective and strikingly dramatic forms of art. Despite the simple palette of just one colour, an artist/maker needs to be controlled and see the form first without texture or colour. The process begins with a thought, followed by a mark, perhaps a line, and the composition starts to emerge. A depth is developed, the spectrum between black and white considered. It is not easy, but careful and considerate. What effect will it have? Does it need colour, a flash perhaps to draw attention, or will it stand on its own without the need for noise? No - we remain in greyscale and, upon completion, we stand back in awe. There is an admiration for restraint.
