Veronika's beetles are part of a larger body of work and symbolise transformation, resilience, and adaptability in different environments. She fondly recalls hunting for beetles—especially potato bugs and stag beetles—as a child in her paternal grandmother's garden, nestled deep in the woods. Those magical times, filled with summer warmth and birdsong, bring her joy and inspire her to revisit those memories through her bug paintings.
The antique frames are sourced from a Hungarian village. Veronika chooses these so that they show signs of wear but are still strong in structure. She doesn't repair their imperfections; only cleans them. These frames symbolise the resilience she explores in her paintings—like the human body and spirit, they have endured challenges, bear the marks of life, yet still hold their purpose and beauty, carrying the story within.
