The Tale of Lludd and Llevelys
A Welsh story from The Mabinogion recounts how King Lludd, aided by his brother Llevelys, confronted Britain’s “Three Plagues,” including disappearing provisions from the royal court and a terrifying recurring scream.
Lludd battles the knight responsible for the stolen provisions, while the scream was revealed to be two dragons in combat, one red, one white. Following his brother’s guidance, Lludd traps the dragons in a mead-filled cauldron at Dinas Emrys in north-west Wales.
Some say this is the original story for our iconic symbol of Wales, the Red Welsh Dragon, Y Ddraig Goch.
