Collagraph etchings are made by scoring mount board with a sharp point to create an image. It is then sealed with shellac creating a printing plate, that gives the artists the opportunity to produce etchings without the use of dodgy chemicals and all the equipment which accompanies more traditional methods. It’s an ‘intaglio’ form of printmaking, meaning that the ink is held inside the scored line and it’s printed on to dampened paper, using a press to apply the pressure necessary to produce a clear print.
