Nia Bennett : Stone Carver : Cowbridge

As a Welsh artist I have a body of work which is all carved stone, incorporating a mixture of lettering and sculptural work. These compliment each other in material, design and form. Dark blue/grey Welsh slate contrasts beautifully with creamy Portland stone or sandstone. Including pebbles gilded in gold leaf, adds another dimension, further emphasising the human hand in transforming the natural rock, plucked from the landscape. I am inspired to carve words about protecting the environment and respecting nature, which when carved in stone, carry an added gravitas. Some of my work can be wall hung, some placed on plinths.
My work can be easily adapted to exhibition themes by choice of words or form.
