Matthew has worked as freelance illustrator/artist for 26 years working with publishers including Penguin, Puffin mainly illustrating children's books and natural history.

Working with various mediums including watercolours, oils and digital, the majority of Matthew's current work is either personal projects or local commissions including mural work. With subjects from natural history to landscapes...usually with a twist of surrealism thrown in.

The bird images are a series of paintings started in 2017 and originally started out following a simple theme of masks, both as an actual object or the type we put up to disguise who we are inside.
Some bird images are often very simple and just a play with words like 'Fishing King' others are more complicated, multi layered with more than one meaning, and very often hidden for the viewer to discover themselves.
