Mark Goldsworthy : Sculptor : Waveney Valley
I work with the figure and have been interested in narrative.More recently I have simplified the designs, using emotion to carry the narrative. I want my sculptures to be felt as well as being seen.
After leaving college and exhibiting and receiving numerous public commissions I found myself entrapped in a cycle of production that was governed by deadlines. I decided to give myself five years in order to build up a body of work that evolved in its own time…this led to my first solo show in several years and was a financial success.
Since then, I work on numerous sculptures at any one time. This enables me to be continually working and removes the pressure to finish any one piece within a set time frame.Consequentially, I might be working on a sculpture over two or three years and they are only finished when they are ready.
To produce a solo exhibition will take me three to four years.
These sculptures are reflections on the journey of life … from the arrogance of youth to the weariness of old age.
