This piece was made in response to an exhibition at the Knepp estate in west Sussex called ‘inspired by Knepp’ a collection of 12 artist and their response to the rewilding project. Knepp is a 3500-acre estate which gave up the plough some 20 years ago to let nature heal the land, its now a haven for migrating birds, butterflies and insects with a heard of longhorn cattle, Exmoor ponies and deer grazing the estate along with three breeding Tamworth’s and a couple of beavers. On our first visit we were lucky enough to be taken on a dawn chorus walk with Penny the estates Ecologist, I was moved to tears on that crisp May morning at the sight of the stalks soaring above us, a natural starting point for the body of work that followed.
