The opening to Joy, by Nick Cave feels like an apt starting point for this show. He lost both of his sons and of course we all go through are lives with some form of loss. Melancholia, though, can be a very creative state and drive an artist to create. 
 I have submerged myself in everything blues. I have read about the colour blue, immersed myself in blue music, surrounded myself with paintings in every shade of blue. Indigo, French Ultramarine, Cobalt and baby blue. This process connects with, stirs up and re-ignites my Nostalgia. And makes me realise how expansive this feeling is. How expansive blue can be.…
Maria’s painting has been shortlisted for the Bentley Open Art Prize, The Maidstone Museum, The British Women Artists Competition and the East Meets West Art Award, as well as being longlisted for the Threadneedle Prize and The Royal West Academy.
Maria is also a member of the Free Painters and Sculptors in London and exhibits nationally and internationally with work in private collections in the UK, USA, Wales, Ireland, Belgium, Germany and Vienna.
