These vessels are thrown in two sections, whether large or small. This allows me to create subtle
movement in the upper section, by throwing this part slightly off centre. This is accentuated by
the natural finish of the rims, showing the movement of the clay.
Inspired by the natural clay body and it’s natural properties, some vessels are unglazed on the
exterior and polished to a fine finish almost like a piece of marble. Others are glazed with a volcanic
like glaze on the interior, then a very fine layer is applied to the exterior which is then sanded to
blur the lines between the natural body and a finished glazed vessel.
In contrast other vessels are left unpolished showing the natural texture and lines of the clay body.
These are then sanded to a fine smooth finish, blurring the visual impact between the
coarseness of the texture and the softness to the touch.
