Janene Waudby : Ceramic Artist : Shieldaig

Janene’s work is inspired by the beauty and spontaneity of nature, particularly of the sea and of the coastline on the west of the Scottish Highlands. Janene works in her studio in Shieldaig on Loch Torridon, overlooking the sea and immersed in the wild and ancient landscape and changing seasons.

Her vessels are all smoke fired with sawdust and plants common to the Highlands, including moss, seaweed and bracken. The surfaces aim to capture the colour, depth, and beautiful imperfection of nature and the sea. By allowing the fire to make its mark on each vessel, every piece of work is as unique as an ancient rock sculpted by the elements.
