"The transient nature of daylilies has always held a fascination, natures oddities and its own multiplicity of demonstrated timescales, inspiring thoughts on time, expendability in the pursuit of regeneration, beauty etc.
The buds are so green, unfurling to yellow and fading in a very angular way to a dry ochre....almost three flowers in one...
Painting them simply by observing, against a backdrop of a 'start' painting as it 'happened' on the studio table - always the best way.
The few days painting them in lockdown in itself added another dimension."
