These three works reference the prehistoric landscape surrounding the historic village of Torphichen near Edinburgh. They evoke traces of existence through the prehistoric era to the iron age and towards the present day in multiple layers of oil, reworked forms and textural passages. The titles describe the view from the top of Cairnpapple Hill and the sense of spiritual significance still resonant in the village, looking North to the River Forth Estuary and reference the music of the contemporary composer, Suzanne Parry, in her work, ‘This Cradle of Hills’.
