Collection: Elain Williams : Potter : Cribyn

Elain Fflur graduated from Carmarthen School of Art in 2025 with a multidisciplinary degree in Ceramics and Jewellery. For her degree show, Elain explored the concept of The Welsh Window(by John Petts), inspired by a visit to the stained glass window in the 16th Street Baptist Church, Alabama the previous year. Her work focused particularly on the negative space within the window’s design.

Following her degree show, Elain continued to develop this body of work while establishing herself as a ceramicist working from her home studio. Each vessel is hand-thrown before the handles are extruded and carefully shaped by hand, working with gravity and — as Elain describes — “many, many sponges and props!” The forms of her handles echo shapes found within the window, especially the negative space surrounding the figure of Jesus. Through these ceramic pieces, she aims to draw attention to the historical event commemorated by The Welsh Window and encourage reflection on the stories and legacy connected to it.
