he Oak tree supports the highest biodiversity of insects compared with any other tree or plant in the UK, 284 species of insects rely on the Oak tree as a main food source and there are many more insects and spiders that use the trees resources for shelter and camouflage.
The subject of this print is therefore the insects that rely on our native trees that are not always seen at first glance but are vital to our ecosystem. The branches of the tree are also symbolic of the evolution of many of these insects to specifically rely on certain plants and trees.
The wood used for the block was a reclaimed plank of local Ash and the insects were cut and printed from lino blocks.
