This piece was inspired by the Apple as a symbol. Firstly that of original, being that of the Original Sin and our eviction from the Garden of Eden. The secondly being the symbol of our dependency on digital technologies and our potential estrangement from the natural world. Like a pearl necklace, each crab-apple is graded and then cast in pewter. The resulting collective weight of the piece makes it uncomfortable to wear and serves to remind us of our failures to value and protect our planet.
This is a display piece, not to be worn.
Cast pewter crab-apples, red glass beads, nylon thread, black wooden tray.
