Graphite on Water Colour Paper
Farm cat stirring out of slumber, shadow deep in a hay rack. Sinuous stretch and leap, lithe grace over cobbles – light, shadow, light, shadow and a pause. Old stone and shades – worn stone, whitewashed stone, light and shadow cast. Highlights, lowlights and mid-tones; a jostling. Old cat, tortoiseshell and white, stealing limelight - softness amongst stone. Hard light carving soothing shade, stories etched in time. Sun gloss on old paint revealing further darkness. Foot worn cobbles polished to time mirrors, highlighting paths to the future present. Walls standing out of time, past angles become present curves, a washing and wearing of passage, a gateway to the beyond. Outside daylight shifts to inside gloaming; interior atmosphere making light of day.
Study in stillness – the poetry of a moment.

Often ideas driven, the inspiration of a word, a line; speech, conversation spun out of time, written word casting mind pictures. Sometimes a scene will enchant, transport; the world observed, turned over and transmuted onto paper. Just so here – captured by the light. Not a wall, but the impression of one, not stone, but an interpretation. Shades highlighting, giving form and meaning. When is a cat not just a cat…
Playing with positives and negatives – art and life. Turn and turn about.
