"Although fascinated by the Technicolour alien environments revealed in ‘The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau’ television series, not being an enthusiastic swimmer, on childhood holidays to the Isles of Scilly, I chose to undertake my own oceanographic explorations in the pristine microcosmic worlds of rock pools, or scrutinising with excited anticipation, the fresh harvest of treasures delivered to my feet by the daily tides.

My delight in first discovering the dazzling expanse of Cefn Sidan beach re-kindled my curiosity about what the clues the tides reveal: an imagined marine ecosystem where artificial detritus and the natural world have evolved skeuomorphic resemblances and become intertwined in an optimistic attempt to heal the ravages of human pollution.

I hope that exploring the forms and details of the objects within these encapsulated environments with the eye and imagination, reveals links and contrasts, and invites one to ponder the mysteries of their identity and consider the impact of people on marine environments."
